    Hi Trinity!
I really wanted to start using hemp seeds but I managed to pick up ones still in their shell and didn’t realize until I had opened the packet and couldn’t return them, all the recipes I’ve looked at so far use shelled hemp and im wondering what to do with these ones, i tried sprouting them but its didnt work. many thanks in advance, Nikki (tournelignum)

    • Hi Nikki,
How lovely to see you here.
Ahhhhw! The reminds me of my first hemp seed encounter. Same sort of thing. I was baffled at first and the internet was just new back then too, so I couldn’t google it. Unfortunately, because you need a special license to grow hemp in this country, they have to sell seeds that are not sproutable 🙁 I like the way you are thinking though – very resourceful.
The one recipe that I do know for hemp seeds with their shells on is hemp milk (and then strain off the pulp with muslin cloth or a nut bag). You could probably just play with it and come up with something great. The one thing I would say is that hemp milk tastes way better when it is chilled (I love it right out of the fridge, but it is ‘so so’ when room temperature.
      I would use…
1 part hemp seeds to between 4 & 8 parts water.
      Soak over night.
Blend in high powered blender (if you have, otherwise just make do – I’ve used a hand blender plenty for that sort of thing).
You can add vanilla and sweetener too (for me that is maybe 1 tsp vanilla extract and a tablespoon of maple syrup.

Not sure if that helps. Good luck.
